Georgia Henson, founding member of the Northeast Texas Writers' Organization, died Friday afternoon, October 22, 2010.
A charter member of NETWO, Georgia remained active in the club from the day it was founded until the day she died. Georgia served at various times as President, Vice-president, historian, and always as head cheeleader for NETWO. She spent endless hours on the telephone promoting NETWO projects. It was partly through her enthusiasm and energy that the first NETWO book was published. She attended dozens of book fairs and festivals to sell NETWO publications and promote the organization. The latest NETWO publication, A Treasure Box, carried one of her stories. Georgia missed only one of the twenty-four NETWO annual conferences, and that was due to illness. In 2010, at the age of 90, she attended the conference in a wheelchair. Even in her last months, Georgia greeted everyone with a smile.
Some years ago (to know exactly what year, one would - as with all questions regarding NETWO - call Georgia to find the answer) NETWO created the "Georgia Henson Scholarship" to acknowledge her contributions to NETWO, and her desire to help anyone wishing to write. Each year, the scholarship is awarded to a writer to attend the spring conference.
The funeral was held at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Pittsburg, Texas, October 24. 2010
