|Ralph Windsong yearns to escape the loneliness of belonging to neither the white nor the Indian community. After his mother's death, Ralph leaves his white father's home in Alabama and heads to the Texas frontier hoping to leave the hatred behind. He finds that some Texans hate or fear Indians and half-breeds as much as the Alabamians. When Ralph learns from a traveling tinker that his older, half brother is gravely ill, he travels south to check on him and his family. Fate plays its hand during his journey. Will rescuing an Indian outcast bring even more trouble to Ralph?|
